E.P. Carrillo Cigars
Ernesto Perez Carrillo initially released his cigars in several limited runs. Eventually, he decided to create a regular production cigar, although limited editions carrying this brand name are still made. Whichever line you select, the experience should be pleasant because this industry veteran always has quality in mind.
The baseline E.P. Carrillo features a blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers contained in an Ecuadorian wrapper with a Nicaraguan binder. An earthy core with hay and grass notes and a finish that is a bit creamy characterize these. Six sizes are offered, ranging from the 4.875-inch, 50 ring Encantos to the 7.125, 49 ring Churchill Especial.
The E.P. Carrillo Edicion Inaugural 2009 commemorated Ernesto Carrillo’s 30 years in the industry. Like the baseline cigar it is medium-bodied and features Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers and an Ecuadorian wrapper. These 5.375-inch, 52 ring stogies retail for about $130 for a box of ten and are available only in limited quantities.
The Elencos Series features a Nicaraguan and Dominican filler blend within a Brazilian wrapper. The taste of this medium to full bodied cigar is cedary and spicy, with sweet notes. A single Elite, Acto Mayor, or Don Rubino costs between $9.50 and $12.50. The New Wave Connecticut Edition comes in four sizes and features a silky Connecticut Ecuadorian wrapper and Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers.
The third E.P. Carrillo limited edition annual release is the Short Run 2011. Construction of this medium to full bodied cigar is impeccable and the spicy, robust blend of aged Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers is a nice complement to the Ecuadorian wrapper. Bombones are 4.875 inches and feature a 50 ring gauge, Canonazos are 5.875 inches and feature a 52 ring, and Inmensos are 6.25 inches and feature a massive 60 ring. Expect to pay about $150 to $185 for a box of 24.
